WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

Tear Trough Filler

Tear trough filler is a treatment aimed at addressing the hollow areas under the eyes, commonly known as tear troughs. As we age, this area can become sunken, leading to a tired or aged appearance. By carefully injecting dermal fillers into the tear troughs, volume is restored, and dark circles are minimised, resulting in a more refreshed and rejuvenated look. This procedure is subtle yet effective, providing immediate improvement with minimal downtime, helping you achieve a brighter and more youthful under-eye area.

Treatment Risks and Considerations

Tear Trough Filler

Vascular Complications: A more serious but rare risk involves the filler being accidentally injected into a blood vessel, which can lead to tissue damage, vision impairment, or in severe cases, blindness. This is why it's crucial to have the procedure performed by an experienced practitioner.
Bruising and Swelling: It's common to experience some bruising and swelling at the injection sites, which usually subsides within a few days.
Infection: As with any injection, there is a risk of infection. Proper sterilisation and aftercare can help minimise this risk.
Allergic reactions: Although rare, some individuals may have an allergic reaction to the filler material, leading to redness, itching, or swelling.
Lumps and Bumps: In some cases, lumps or bumps may form under the skin. These can sometimes be massaged out, but in rare instances, they may require further treatment.

FAQ for Dermal Fillers

We regularly get asked about our procedures, so we have put together questions we get asked on a regular basis. If there is something else you would like to know, please get in touch!

How long do dermal fillers last?

The longevity of dermal fillers depends on the product used and the treatment area. Generally, results last between 6 to 18 months. Areas with more movement, like lips, may require touch-ups sooner than areas with less movement.

Is the procedure painful?

You will receive numbing cream before the procedure to ensure comfort. Some clients may feel slight pressure or a pinching sensation during the injection.

What can I expect during the recovery process?

There may be mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, which typically subsides within a few days. Most clients can return to their daily activities immediately after treatment. We recommend avoiding strenuous activities, alcohol, and excessive heat exposure for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment.

What are the chances of getting a vascular occlusion?

A rare but serious complication of dermal fillers is vascular occlusion, which occurs when filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel, blocking blood flow. The chances of this happening are approximately 1 in 100,000 when performed by a skilled practitioner. However, it’s important to know that untreated vascular occlusion can result in skin necrosis, scarring, or vision loss. Our practitioners are highly trained to recognise the early signs and have protocols in place to manage it, including the use of hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler immediately if necessary.

How should I prepare for my dermal filler appointment?

We recommend avoiding blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, for at least a week before treatment to reduce the risk of bruising. Avoid alcohol and smoking 24 hours prior. Please inform us of any allergies or medical conditions beforehand.

How soon will I see results?

You will notice immediate improvements after your dermal filler treatment, though final results may take a few days to fully settle as swelling subsides.
